Bab Bhar is Marwan Allam’s debut album, a project to open new doors and perspectives connecting jazz with Arabo-Andalusian and North African heritages. It features a new soloing style of the upright bass, mixing between eastern and western cultures and collaborating with New York City based artists.
Originally from Tunisia, Marwan has worked with Marc Cary, Tarek Yammani, Freddie Bryant, Liz Rosa, Jay Rattman and Yacine Boulares. He studied jazz at the Prins Claus Conservatory in the Netherlands and has performed at Umbria Jazz, Swinging Groningen, Cairo Jazz, the Hammamet and Tabarka Jazz Festivals in Tunisia, and the Mediterranean Jazz Festival in NYC.
Allam has recorded and toured with flutist Dominique Gagne and flamenco guitarist Andreas Arnold. He joined pianist Albert Marques' flamenco-jazz trio in the summer of 2021, collaborating with drummer Ari Hoenig, and has also worked with trumpeter Shareef Clayton and oud player Amir El Saffar, along with Brain Prunka.
