Renowned pianist, JOHN CHIN joins forces with LunÀtico co-founder and singer, RICHARD JULIAN to slice and dice the Mose Allison's inexhaustible catalogue. The band is called Anything Mose and revisits the composer’s sage, sardonic, swinging genius with vital new energy and ideas . One of the band’s LunÁtico performances featured a surprise guest appearance by Bonnie Raitt who slayed "Everybody's Cryin' Mercy" for a stunned LunÀtico audience.
“A treasured longtime figure on the New York jazz scene, pianist JOHN CHIN is a prolific composer and heavy-duty improviser who pulls real magic out of his eclectic bag of jazz, pop and Western classical traditions. With a deft, light touch, Chin goes from speedy, Tatum-esque runs up and down the keyboard (amazing independence of both hands) on a variety of boppy standards to bruisingly intimate reflections that poke at the harmonic, melodic and contrapuntal possibilities of his chosen repertoire. Working within the confines of a trad jazz trio (acoustic piano, stand-up bass and drums) seems to open wide vistas for the Juilliard-trained, Kenny Barron–mentored Chin. He’s full of surprises in his seemingly organic ability to veer from the bluesy roots of the jazz-canon playbook to full-on hypermodern abstraction, transcending the dusty clichés of both.” - LA Weekly
LunÀtico co-founder RICHARD JULIAN is a composer, lyricist, and singer based in Brooklyn, New York. He has been praised by distinguished musicians from Randy Newman to Bonnie Raitt for his singular songcraft which combines elements of folk and jazz to paint wry existential portraits of life. Randy Newman has called him "One of the best songwriters and record makers I've heard in a very long time."
"...a voice as distinctive as a thumbprint...if only more songwriters - and more people - had his balance of wit and fortitude." ~ Jim Farber
